Fact 178: On what date was the first ever Eurovision Song contest?


The first ever Eurovision Song Contest was held in Lugano, Switzerland, at the Teatro Kursaal (it a theatre in Switzerland), on the 24th of May 1956.
The rehearsals in the Teatro Kursaal (the venue) with the competing artists and the orchestra started on the 21 May 1956

The countries that took part were the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, France, Luxembourg and Italy.

The first country and person to ever win was Switzerland's entry, Lys Assia who sang "Refrain".
