Fact 33: Why do Giraffes have long necks? 

This answer may surprise you to know that, it isn't so they can reach the top of the trees yes it helps, but it's not why they evolved, to have long necks.

The real reason is quite surprising indeed; it is to help them fight each other, for dominance by, basically using their head like a golf club, and by having a long neck they can swing their neck to help them to give a powerful hit to their opponent.

 This is according to researchers at the Chinese Academy of Science.
