Fact 163: Where does the Xingu River Ray live?


The Xingu River Ray, is not only a good animal to know if someone asks you if they is an animal beginning with the letter X, it is also interesting because it is a type of fresh water stingray that is only found in Brazil (in the wild) in the Xingu River which is where it gets it's name from. 

The scientific name for the Xingu River Ray Is Potamotrygon leopoldi, the Xingu River Ray is also known as the white-blotched river stingray and polka-dot stingray.
An adult (mature) Xingu River Ray,  length is about two feet, a width of 11.8 (29.972 cm) to 30 inches (76.2 cm).
A group of stingrays is called a fever.


The Xingu River Basin is the fourth largest tributary of the amazon river (the amazon river flows into the XingĂș river), the Xingu River is 507,000 km2, this it is nearly the size of France.
