Fact 115: How do crickets make that annoying chirping noise?

crickets (Grylloidea)

firstly I would just like to point out that I was immensely surprised when I found out that crickets don't make the chirping noise with their back legs in fact they make the noise by rubbing their wings together, this action is called stridulation, they carry out this action by putting their wings at a 45-degree and only rubbing the top bit of there wing which is called the scraper, against the bottom side of the wing, the bottom side of the wing is called the file and by rubbing their scraper and file (wings) together they create the noise, it is most the male crickets how create this sound to attract a female cricket.
