Fact 52: Is the tomato plant poisonous?

Fact 52: Is the tomato plant poisonous?

This may surprise you to know that yes the plant is poisonous but the fruit is not (when ripe).

The stems and leaves and roots are poisonous to humans and cats and dogs because they have solanine, this because tomatoes are a part of the (deadly) nightshade family(Solanaceae), solanine is an alkaloid, and an alkaloid it is a naturally occurring organic nitrogen-containing compound that is mostly found in plants in Brittan and is toxic, unripe tomatoes also have a toxin (poison) called tomatine this is only found in the fruit.

The fruit is not poisonous however if they are unripe and eaten raw in large quantities it can cause unpleasant symptoms like a fever, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, being sick, and drowsiness. apparently, you can eat them if you boil them but there are conflicting articles.  This is because unripe tomatoes contain Both tomatine and solanine these are both poisons that are found in tomatoes before they are ripe (when they are green) however because tomato plants depend on the fruits being eaten to help to distribute their seed basically, the bird eats the fruit, the bird enjoyed eating the fruit, the bird ate too much of the fruit and now the bird needs the toilet, then the seeds of the fruit fall on grass (or on any car near the bird) and, then the seeds start to grow into plants witch create fruit and so on and so on,  but to make sure the bird doesn't eat the fruit when the fruit is not ripe the 2 toxins will only disappear when the tomatoes are ripe (red). This makes the fruit taste deliciously sweet and we then eat them as well

some articles that I read said that you should wear gloves and long sleeves when doing anything with a tomato plant because they can cause wheezing, hives, nausea, vomiting, sneezing, runny nose, burns and rashes.
