Fact 211: What is the name of the massive white statue in front of Buckingham Palace?


The name of the massive white statue in front of Buckingham Palace is called The Victoria Memorial it was built by and designed by the sculptor Sir Thomas Brock Designed in 1901, it was built from 1906 and finshed in 1924, the Victoria statue was unveiled on 16 May 1911.
It was Commissioned and planned by King Edward VII as a tribute and to honour Queen Victoria his mother after Queen Victoria's death on the 22nd of January 1901.

The statue of Queen Victoria just Queen Victoria (not the rest of the memorial) is just over 18 foot high, and made out of Carrara marble, the statue of Queen Victoria is about 13 feet taller than Queen Victoria because Victoria was 5foot tall.

The entire memorial\ monument is 82.021 feet (=25 metres) tall and is made out of 2,300 tonnes of white Carrara marble.
