Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote four novels and fifty-six short stories that featured sherlock holmes. Sherlock holmes first appeared in a short story called, “A Study in Scarlet,” which was published in Beeton's Christmas Annual in 1887 and later sherlock holmes starred, in a series of Holmes stories printed in The Strand magazine in 1891.
