Fact 113: Where did the name Winnie the Pooh come from?

Fact 113: Where did the name Winnie the Pooh come from?

The Name came from a Bear at London and, a Swan A.A Milne wrote about in a book (When We Were Very Young by A. A. Milne).

The original name for the Bear the that A.A Milne (Alan Alexander Milne) brought Christopher Robin Milne was called Mr Edward Bear, A.A Milne also wrote a poem called teddy bear about a Bear called Edward Bear and the poem appeared in a, for mentioned book called, We Were Very Young.

The reason for the Winni was because of a real Bear at London zoo called Winni because the soldier Lieutenant Harry D. Colebourn who gave the Bear to London Zoo had brought the Bear cub for $20 (£12) from a hunter who had already killed the bears mother and Lt. Colebourn brought the bear back to England and the Bear was a pet and a mascot for name winnie was because Lt. Colebourn home town was winnipeg.
The brown Bear Winnie was officially
donated after Lt. Colebourn came back from France because Lt. Colebourn appreciated the care that Winnie had been given by London zoo and in application for the fact that Winnie had become a great favourite with visitors when he was sent to fight in France. During the time Lt. Colebourn was fighting in France a certain Christopher Milne visited Winnie infact there is a photo of Christopher feeding Winnie honey from a spoon in side the enclosure.
Christopher Robin Milne disided to change the name that was allocated by Harrods (Mr Edward) and call his stuffed toy Bear Winnie.

The pooh bit is slightly less interesting because A.A Milne writes in the front of the book it was a swan Christopher met on holiday and disided to call pooh, and so Christopher Milne put the two names together and created the name winnie the Pooh.

Christopher Robin Milne interestingly didn't really like the fact his name was used in the book, A.A Milne originally wrote the book just for Christopher and so his name was only used because the story was based on him and his animal Teddy's from Harrods that Christopher played with as a child.

The original winnie the pooh Bear Teddy drawings by E.H. Shepard's were based on his son's Teddy bear called Growler not winnie the Pooh Christopher's bear.
Unfortunately the original Growler bear was destroyed by the E.H Shepherd's dog.

The teddy of roo was lost in an apple orchard by Milne dog and never found.
The owl and the rabbit were not bast on actual (real) stuffed toys owned by Christopher Robin they were in fact created by A.A Milne to fit the story.
