Fact 78: How long did it take Charles Dickens to write A Christmas Carol?

Charles Dickens was born on 7th February 1812 and  died on 9th June 1870.
It literally took Charles Dickens only six weeks to write the whole of A Christmas Carol *novella* the is because Charles Dickens was having financial problems. Dickens almost certainly wrote the book on his hour long midnight walks around London because Dickens suffered from insomnia.
The book was first published on December 19, 1843 by the London publishing company called Chapman & Hall.

*a novella is longer than a short story however it is also shorter than a novel*
